The Scholarship
Students at the Victoria Park High School created the artwork for the Rose. The proceeds that would usually go to an artist are being given to pay for a student to attend this school—who otherwise could not afford to do so.
This scholarship operates on the pay-it-forward principle. The recipient attends the school and engages in a community project to help the Walmer Township. Thus, we can engage the community—and bring the online community together to help the Walmar Township.
News
The May 2014 Kickstarter for Digital Camera got a digital camera for this Rose Scholar.
About Lulama
Our first student is Lulama Mpongoshe, and here is his introduction:
I am Lulama Mpongoshe. I currently attend school at Walmer high school and I am doing grade 10. I take accounting, business and economics as my subjects and then we have languages and Life Orientation as compulsory subjects. I play cricket as my first sport then soccer and tennis are my other favorite sports. I like reading, listening to music, watching TV, and playing sports. I am involved in an organization called Masifunde learner development that has programs that keeps the youth busy like: the Masifunde choir, arts and music, computer classes, home work club and learn4life which is a life skills program and everyone that is part of Masifunde is obliged to take part.
I am part of “youth for safer communities” that is a project from learn4life where we go to schools around Nelson Mandela bay talking about how to make our communities safer.
