Etymology: The origin of this symbol and spectrum

M is a cardiograph—I have been in enough hospitals to see these little machines that have glowing green lines to indicate the body’s oxygen, temperature, heart rhythms. And thus, a gentle line represents a calm, purposeful energy. At one extreme, flat tiny blips of energy show total exhaustion—flat lining. At the other extreme, jagged lines show a panicked, uncontrolled energy.

Orthography: How to remember these symbols

This symbol is pretty easy—just draw the line to represent how much energy—and what type you have at the moment.

Philosophy: How I use these symbols to embrace life

When I am upset or I find myself rushing about in a blind panic (so and so wants this now but I have to have this for my meeting in an hour and and and), I take a deep breath and trace a calm line in the air, realigning my energy.

When I am too tired to go on, I see the flat line with so little energy, and I breathe in and out, trying to move the line, to get a bit more life into it.
